By Del Belcher
The best part about Jackson is that your ability to have fun and get involved is limited only by your willingness to explore. Who doesn’t love having fun and exploring? One helpful way I started exploring this great city is through Instagram. In order to showcase everything Jackson has to offer, I wanted to share with you the Instagram profiles that I would consider to be the best of the best. I consider these the best not just because the pictures are cool, but because they fully bring into focus what Jackson is all about: beauty, history, and the future.
So, in no particular order, let's take a trip through the three Jackson Instagrams you should follow right now!
The Ella Sharp Museum - @ellasharpmuseum
First off, I love the Ella Sharp. They host some of my favorite annual Jackson community events that I look forward to every year. The Ella Sharp Museum’s mission is to promote a broader understanding and appreciation of art and history. What makes @ellasharpmuseum special is that it doesn’t just tell the stories of the art and history we already love, but of the art and history of the Jackson community. Photos of exhibits and events are posted daily in a way that speak to the richness of Jackson’s past, and the hope of Jackson’s future.
Dave Bostedor Photography - @dbostedor3
Before recent economic developments and investments, the city and surrounding Jackson County had been known for its access to water and wildlife. A Jackson resident or visitor can’t drive a mile without running into a breathtaking river or lake. The Martin Luther King Jr Equality Trail and Falling Waters Trail are like stepping out of your car and taking a trip to northern Michigan. Dave Bostedor is warehouse manager by day and incredibly talented nature photographer by night. @dbostedor3’s carefully curated stream of snaps perfectly captures the natural aspect of what Jackson has to offer. The Michigan tourism slogan is “Pure Michigan” and no one comes closer to capturing the area's natural purity than Dave.
Jackson Young Professionals - @jxnyp
With Consumers Energy, Henry Ford Allegiance Health and many other corporations and businesses moving into town, Jackson has become a hotbed of professional growth and recruitment. As a result, I’ve found that the heart of Jackson isn’t just beating, it’s growing stronger every day. Nothing proves this more than the Jackson Young Professionals. JxnYP’s mission is to establish and promote social and career development as well as encourage community outreach in Jackson. Need signs of vibrant life of a young adult community? Look no further. Whether it’s their recent annual birthday celebration or updates on their large group meetings at Alro Steel or the Consumers Innovation Center, @JXNYP is chock full of the faces and places of Jackson’s bright future.
HONORABLE MENTION - Jackson Downtown Development Authority - @downtownjacksonmi
After writing the first three, I realized that there was one more group who needed to be included. The Jackson Downtown Development Association has some serious Instagram game and you need to check it out! The city of Jackson has been developing at an incredible rate over the last year. @downtownjacksonmi does a perfect job capturing the hustle and bustle of daily life, the energy and fun of the after hours, and a glimpse of what’s to come!
