Paddling in Jackson, MI
"Paddling in Jackson, Michigan in autumn is a wonderful experience. One need only travel a few miles from home to be able to enjoy the headwaters of the Kalamazoo, Portage, Raisin or the Grand Rivers. Whether one canoes, kayaks, or stand up paddleboards, the colors, wildlife and gentle water will be both relaxing and inspiring. The Grand River Environmental Action Team sponsors a paddle outing in October and has kayaks and canoes to loan. They also have a map and trip suggestions for the Grand River. Paddling.com is an excellent resource for locating put in and take out locations and trip reports. Quiet World Sports offers kayaking and stand up paddleboard lessons all summer long, and by appointment after Labor Day. Always be sure someone knows your itinerary (float plan), check the weather before you go out, keep your cell phone and car keys in a secure dry box or bag, and always wear your life jacket!"
