Michigan is notorious for its picturesque landscape that provides for days of outdoor fun! Jackson, Michigan is no exception; it’s an ideal spot to experience everything that is purely Michigan. Spend a weekend paddling a kayak, reeling in a big fish, spotting a rare bird, or hitting your first hole-in-one.
Canoeing & Kayaking
The best way to see Mother Nature up close is on our miles of waterways! You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy your time kayaking or canoeing in Jackson. We have plenty of great spots for beginners. Quiet World Sports can be found on the shore of the pristine Vandercook Lake. Here you can rent a kayak for a day of touring, get a lesson from one of their experts, or join one of their group tour options.
Bring your own kayak for a day on Clark Lake, a popular spot for locals and tourists. Once you are ready for a break, paddle over to Beach Bar for a tasty selection of homemade soups, sandwiches, and other items.
Fishing
Looking for somewhere new to fish? Try one of Jackson’s 125 lakes! With plenty of fish-stocked waters, lakes, and even Michigan’s longest river – the Grand River, it’s a great place to reel in fish after fish. The Waterloo State Recreation Area is a go-to spot for many avid fishermen because it provides 11 lakes within its 20,000-acre area boundary.
Birding
Enjoy migratory and native birds in Jackson. We have miles of trails that are perfect for spotting birds, as well as sanctuaries dedicated to bird watching. Famous for our Sandhill Cranes, the Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary is the perfect spot to see one of these massive birds in person. If you’re planning on coming to Jackson in the fall, print your free habitat map so you’ll know just where to find them during their migratory period.
Golfing
If golf is your game, then Jackson is your destination. With more than 20 courses in the area, it’s a golfer’s dream! Try your nine iron on the back nine of Hills’ Heart of the Lakes, an impressive course designed by PGA Tour Pro Mike Hill. If you’ve never played on a British-style course, then you must try all 18 holes at Calderone. These are just two of the scenic, yet challenging courses Jackson has to offer. Spend some time on several of them this fall using our Golf Play & Stay Packages.
