Jackson Optimist Figure Skating Club gains interim status through United States Figure Skating Assoc

The Jackson Optimist Figure Skating Club, JOFSC, has been operating as a club at the Optimist Ice Arena since December of 2014.  On July 18, 2015 the JOFSC was granted interim status, as a first step in an effort to become a full member club.  

Jackson Optimist Figure Skating Club, JOFSC, will provide skaters of all ages and abilities the opportunity to continue their training and prepare for competitions, test sessions, and shows while further promoting the sport of figure skating.

Jackson, MI September 22, 2015:  The Jackson Optimist Figure Skating Club, JOFSC, has been operating as a club at the Optimist Ice Arena since December of 2014.  On July 18, 2015 the JOFSC was granted interim status, as a first step in an effort to become a full member club. 

Jackson Optimist Figure Skating Club, JOFSC, will provide skaters of all ages and abilities the opportunity to continue their training and prepare for competitions, test sessions, and shows while further promoting the sport of figure skating.

As a member of JOFSC, skaters will become members of USFSA.  Skaters will be eligible to compete at basic skills competitions or at standard figure skating competitions.  Skaters are also eligible to complete test sessions, which are required for advancement in the sport.  Skaters will be able to represent JOFSC at competitions.  JOFSC will provide volunteer opportunities and club events that will encourage leadership, friendship, and comradery.  

Full club members will pay $65 yearly.  We also will have a first time rate of $40 for new members.  Adults are encouraged to join also; the rate for adult members is $50.  All members in good standing and over the age of 18 will be eligible to vote and hold office.  Memberships are being accepted now.  Please contact Vicki Moore at JOFSC1@gmail.com .

Optimist Ice Arena’s “Learn to Skate” program is an introductory program that teaches the basics of skating. The program offers group lessons for skaters of all ages and abilities. This program, directed by Ami Annala, will continue to serve as a feeder program for the JOFSC.  You can find more information about upcoming “Learn to Skate” sessions at www.optimisticearena.com .
