4. Game Day Foods
If you don’t get your fill of tailgate foods at the game, Jackson has plenty of spots to satisfy your cravings. Hot dogs are a staple of any good tailgate; however, we can do you one better – a coney dog. With several outstanding coney restaurants, it's easy to get your fill. Try out Jackson Coney Island for the truly authentic experience. This 1914 restaurant has been serving delicious coney dogs three years longer than any Detroit coney island. In the mood for a great burger or Michigan’s best BBQ? Schlenkers and West Texas Barbecue Co. have you covered!
5. One-of-a-Kind Museums
Jackson’s prison history runs deep. So deep that we have two unrivaled locations that pay tribute to our past. The Original Jackson Historic Prison Tours takes you around Michigan’s first state prison, right in downtown Jackson. Go behind the 25-foot high stone walls to explore the old prison grounds and tour what used to be solitary confinement. Cell Block 7: Michigan’s Prison Museum is located within and active penitentiary. Although this 516-cell wing is no longer in use, it’s located amongst other active cell blocks and provides a real look at prison life without the sentence.
