These days it’s become all too easy to shop chains stores and online retailers without giving much thought to where our dollars are going. With the click of a button we easily purchase products, having no idea who made them or where. There’s a lot of convenience in that, but it doesn’t necessarily help secure jobs in our own community. The Buy Michigan Now Fall Fest provides an opportunity to change that, at least for one day.
Presented by American 1 Credit Union, this uniquely Michigan event is returning to Keeley Park (Jackson County Fairgrounds) on Saturday, September 21st from 10am to 6pm. Michigan-based companies will be on site with an incredible array of locally-made products and services including apparel and accessories, jewelry, candles, home furnishings, art, books by local authors, pet products, and more. There will be a wide range of foods to try then buy as well.
Sure, it seems like a long way until December, but it will be here before we know it, so it’s never too early to start stocking up on holiday gifts. You’ll find some exclusive items that can’t be found in most stores. Delight the loved ones on your list and treat yourself to something fresh and new, all the while knowing you are supporting job growth and stability in our own area.
If every Michigan household shifted just $10 of its weekly spending to Michigan-made products, collectively we would put $38 Million a week back into our local economy. We don’t have to wait for large corporations to relocate here, or new industries to be born. Together we can revitalize our local economy by paying attention to where our own dollars go. That is the impetus behind the Buy Michigan Now campaign, and this exciting event returning to Jackson for its fifth consecutive year.
There will be fun for the whole family with Randy’s BBQ and Ann Arbor’s famous Ray’s Red Hots serving up good eats, not to mention games galore. Try your hand at giant Jenga. Work on your golf game. Get in a cornhole battle. Take your shot at MI-made Fling-a-Ring, and try your hand at lots of other fun activities.
Parking and admission are free. Come for the shopping, stay for the fun, and help revitalize Michigan’s economy, one product, one purchase, one person at a time.
