Explore Disc Golf in Jackson

Disc golf is one of the fastest growing recreation sports in America. Michigan is blessed to have more than 300 public courses throughout the state.

Jackson’s disc golf scene has really grown over the past few years. Disc golf is a great game for people of all ages and skill levels. The game is played like tradition golf with counting strokes and pars. The player starts in a designated tee box, throws the disc, walks to where it lands and throws it again until it comes to rest inside the target (disc golf basket). The game is also very affordable as most discs cost between $8 and $20 dollars and you only need one to play!

There are companies and clubs like Wolf Pack Discs, 127 Disc Golf, Roc Pile DGC and Grand River Union DGC that have weekly leagues and tournaments throughout the year in Jackson. Grand River Union runs two leagues a week (a singles and a doubles) and invites players of all skill levels to join. Charles from Grand River Unions says a decade ago there was only about 10 disc golfers in the county, now he gets more than 50 people to show up at the Sunday doubles league.

There are courses in Jackson at Jackson College's Big Portage Lake Park, another course just south of Jackson in Somerset called Lady in the Blue. Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan has a course on campus. More courses are in the works including one at Ella Sharp Park and two other townships inside of Jackson County. With plenty of area to play disc golf gets everyone outdoors and active.
