Honoring Janet Rochefort’s Contributions to the Jackson Community

Janet Rochefort has made lasting impact on the Jackson community. It is no question that Jackson, Michigan is a better place to live, work and play because of her efforts. Whether you recognize her as the Jackson County Treasurer or owner of the Hankerd Inn Resort, her positivity and energetic spirit have made their mark!

Janet was a trailblazer by anyone’s measure. She helped found Experience Jackson and was involved with the organization for over 22 years. During her 22 years with the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Janet served as president and treasurer. She also served many visitors to Jackson County as owner of the Hankerd Inn for 24 years. Through all her roles, she worked hard to bring economic development and tourism to Jackson and make more efficient government for residents.Janet Rochefort

Working as a single mother, Rochefort served as an active part of many boards for local nonprofits and organizations in Jackson including the Kiwanis Club for 7 years after becoming the first female member, United Way, Community Action Agency, Vista Grande Villa, and the Interfaith Shelter. She also started the Jackson County Land Bank Authority and as Jackson County Treasurer she instituted the Delinquent Tax Revolving fund.

Janet has over 44 years of finance experience and community involvement. She worked for Jackson Midwest Bank, Consumers Power, served as Jackson County Treasurer for 28 years and the Leoni Township Treasurer for 3 years. “Most of my life in all my jobs, my goal was to promote Jackson County,” said Rochefort.

In her spare time, Janet is a Fiber Artist and has been the president of the Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild for 17 years. “I have tried to give back all the gifts God has given me” she said. Janet has spent most of her life committed to promoting and growing Jackson County. Without her, Jackson, Michigan would not be the place it is today.
