Emmons Service Inc. Donates $10,000 to Cascades Renovation

Emmons Service Inc., a local waste hauler serving Jackson County since 1918, has made a generous donation of $10,000 to the Cascades Renovation Project.

This money will go towards Phase II of the six phase renovation project. Phase II will be the first stage to improve the electrical, mechanical and plumbing components of the heart of The Cascades. This work will entail a new electrical and pumping building and new piping to fill and operate The Cascades. Included in this portion of the project will be the design and installation of two splash pads which will be located at the base of The Cascade falls for the public to enjoy.

Thank you Emmons Service Inc. for your donation towards the renovation and continued preservation of The Cascades!

As with any over 80 year old monument, restorations are an ongoing process. There have been several “Save the Cascades” campaigns but none of the magnitude currently being mounted. In the 70's, a 150 foot wall was built to keep out vandals, but this blocked the view of the beautiful falls from the street. In December of 2014 work began to tear down the wall and replace it with a decorative fence as Phase One of a six phase multi-million dollar restoration project. The renovations including the new decorative fence and green space were revealed during the Start of Summer Memorial Day Fireworks 2015.

This is only the beginning as Phase Two is set to begin soon to repair the “heart” of the falls which include the electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, some original to 1932.

Subsequent phases include:

Phase Three: Renovation of the outside including the 126 steps to the top of the structure and the concrete fencing around the stairway
Phase Four: Maintenance work on the falls' fountains
Phase Five: Maintenance work on the falls' plaza
Phase Six: Building a new visitors' center in five years

The Cascades, also known as Cascade Falls, are one of Jackson’s most unique and spectacular attractions. Visitors from every state and 33 countries have gazed at the twinkling lights while enjoying a variety of music. Children of all ages have climbed the 126 steps to the top to be cooled by the fine mist from the powerful fountains along the way.

Memorial Day Weekend kicks off the summer season of nightly light shows with the Start of Summer Fireworks at The Cascades on Saturday, May 28, 2016. The season continues with the play 1776 by Center Stage Jackson, Wednesday Night Family Fun Nights and Saturday Rotary Bandshell Concerts
