MI Playground Returns to Jackson County for more outdoor adventures.
Brothers Nick and Andy Behling of MI Playground are no strangers to a great adventure. With their background in travel, and their knack for discovering gems across the state of Michigan, the Behling brothers are experts you can trust to curate your dream trip. On another return trip to Jackson County, the duo discovered even more to love:
Kayaking at Vandercook Lake: Starting the Day With a Splash
The adventure kicked off with a peaceful paddle across the calm waters of Vandercook Lake. Nick and Andy enjoyed a refreshing morning kayak, soaking in the scenic beauty and getting a feel for the outdoor spirit that Jackson has to offer. As they paddled across the clear, blue water, they encountered the gracefulness of sandhill cranes, and took in the beauty of Jackson’s natural glory. Connecting to both Brown Lake to the west, and Cove Lake to the north, Vandercook Lake is the perfect adventure for lakers seeking variety.

After working up an appetite on the water, the Behlings headed to West Texas Barbecue Co. for a meal worth remembering. Renowned for their mouth-watering, slow-smoked meats, West Texas Barbecue didn’t disappoint. From fall-off-the-bone ribs to juicy brisket packed with smoky flavor, Nick and Andy dove into a hearty feast that captured the essence of authentic Texas-style barbecue right here in Michigan.

Bright Walls: Art That Lights Up the City
Visiting the City of Jackson requires a stop at Bright Walls. That’s because Bright Walls makes Jackson a living and breathing art gallery, free to enjoy 365 days a year. Nick and Andy explored the city in awe, snapping photos of their favorite pieces, and admiring the work of acclaimed international artists who contributed to making Jackson’s architecture more colorful and vibrant. There’s always a photo op in the City of Jackson, so keep your camera ready!

With energy winding down, a visit to Ogma Brewing Co. was in order. Located in Downtown Jackson, this beloved institution unites local beer production and culturally-fused cuisine with community spirit under one far-out environment. Ogma presents a relaxed, punky atmosphere through which guests can enjoy their choice between crisp lagers and bold IPAs and connect with others who share their interests. Nick and Andy spent the evening drinking beer while enjoying the positive atmosphere and engaging in conversations with local residents.
Cascades Light Show: A Jackson Tradition After Dark
As the sun dipped beneath the beautiful city skyline, the brothers headed for the Cascades. This beloved artificial waterfall becomes a spectacular display of synchronized lights and music at night, captivating audiences of all ages with dazzling effects. As Jackson County’s most famous landmark, the Falls were built in early spring of the 1930s and continue to entertain new generations of locals and visitors from around the world. Nick and Andy watched the colorful water sparkle and dance as they reminisced on the journey they just went on.
