Summer Spent in Jackson

Experience Jackson Logo

A morning at the farmers market, a day spent on the lake, and an evening trip to get some ice cream, all are things summer in Jackson is known for. We’re sharing ways to soak up those warm summer days in our favorite place.

Summer Staples

After a long spring, the Grand River Farmers Market is finally back. Stock up on locally grown fruits and vegetables while getting some flowers to brighten up your home, or even some succulents for your bedroom. Bring the feel of summer home with you by filling your kitchen with farm-fresh produce.

What better way to cool off on a hot summer day than spending some time at the Splash Pad at Cascades? Take your little ones to splash and play while you enjoy the sunshine in one of their lounge chairs. They’ll spend their time weaving in and out of fountains, splashing in small pools, and cooling off under the giant dump bucket.

Lake Days

It’s hard to stay inside when you know there are beautiful local lakes waiting for you to dive in. Big Portage Lake is perfect for those who are looking for more than just a lake. The Waterloo Recreation Area surrounds the lake with nature and hiking trails. Gilletts Lake has a sandy beach, a picnic area, a playground, and even a softball diamond.

Quiet World Sports, on Vandercook Lake Beach, you can rent enough paddle boards and kayaks for the whole family to adventure with.  Clark Lake County Park is open for public access, clear water, and good times. Finish your night off at the Beach Bar or The Pointe for some live music, drinks, and dancing by the water.

Cold Treats

It’s not summer in Jackson until you make your way to Cascades Park for some ice cream. After you get your chocolate and vanilla twist cone dipped in chocolate or your decadent strawberry shortcake, wander over to the park for a walk around the pond and over the bridge, or enjoy your sweet treat under a shady tree. If you’re feeling bold, head to the Parlour for a Dare to Be Great. The legendary Dare to Be Great is not for the faint of heart, it has 21 different scoops of ice cream piled high and is topped with fluffy whipped cream and sweet maraschino cherries.

Kickback and enjoy the beautiful summer we have ahead, Jackson. Our local hotspots are waiting for you. Looking for more? Check out the Experience Jackson Community Calendar to see what events with have in store, all summer long!
