Imagine the time before paved streets, cars and buses; when the Grass Lake village streets bustled with activity and people. Now imagine re-visiting this early 1900s village where the electric Inter-Urban railway system was the primary mode of public transportation, and let your imagination come to life as you explore the Lost Railway Museum. The Lost Railway Museum had its Grand Opening on July 1, 2017, and is located within a renovated abandoned building in Grass Lake. In the early 1900s, more than six railways intersected in Jackson County and delivered visitors to and from Ann Arbor, Jackson, Battle Creek and Lansing; this summer, you will be able to see what this intersection was like at the Lost Railway Museum.
New in 2021, the Lost Railway Museum added a virtual train ride experience called The Boland Express. Digitally enhanced historical footage brings the past life on window tv displays, as you take the bumpy ride inside Car #29 from downtown Jackson to the Wolf Lake Casino Spur, and into Grass Lake, as you return home from shopping downtown to prepare for Wolf Lake Casino’s weekend Vaudeville show and music.
